Jesus' Invitation

by Foothills Church on November 29, 2020

In the sermon, Pastor Dave taught from Matthew 11:28-30: that worry is useless because God knows what you need. The Bible tells Christians to “rest” in God’s provision and love. We’ll see that “rest” is not inactivity or passivity, but something else entirely, in fact, the Bible tells us to “be diligent to enter into the rest of God”.

Read Matthew 11:28-30. What is Jesus’ antidote to worry and heartache?

Now read all of Hebrews chapter 4 (it’s short!). The Bible doesn’t tell us never to never be anxious about anything. Instead, the Bible tells us what to fear. What does the passage in Hebrew exhort us to be afraid of? Hint: verse 1.

What do verses 2 and 6 give as the reason people fail to enter God’s rest? In verse 11 we’re instructed to work hard to enter God’s rest! What do you think that means?
