Speak Life

by Foothills Church on November 03, 2019

Pastor Mark taught about the power of the tongue. In this lesson we’ll dig deeper into one of the classic biblical texts on the power of our words to build up and to destroy.

Read James Chapter 3.

James has a lot of unflattering things to say about the human tongue. Especially in verses 5 through 8. In your experience, have you been in a situation where someone’s words poisoned an otherwise salvageable conflict?  Have you ever found yourself regretting your words and wishing you’d spoken very differently? Have you ever resolved to hold your tongue but you ended up lashing out anyway?

James explains that a person who can control what comes out of his mouth- can also exercise self-control in every area of his life. Why do you suppose that is? Why is it impossible to live a godly life if you don’t really have mastery over the things you say?

Come to home group prepared to discuss this saying; and whether you agree and why: “Your speech is a window to your soul.”
